What to Post on Pinterest? 8 Ideas That Aren't Blog Posts

Are you a business owner wondering how to get more traffic to your website? Pinterest is an underrated marketing tool that works as a search engine, not a social media platform. If you'd like to consistently drive traffic to your website, it's worth considering Pinterest!

The question is, what do you post on Pinterest as a business owner? Let's dive into exactly how Pinterest works and some ideas on what to post on the platform besides blog posts.

Is Pinterest effective for marketing?

Pinterest can be extremely effective for marketing- with the right strategy. One of the main benefits of Pinterest is that it functions as a search engine, not a social media platform, so you don't have to stress over followers, likes, and comments.

This means that Pinterest works entirely differently from a platform like Instagram. In case the only thing you know about Pinterest is that you can save recipes and home decor, then let's explore how it works for business.

The Basics of Pinterest for Business

When you think of marketing your business, Pinterest likely isn't the first strategy that comes to mind. Here's a quick rundown on how Pinterest could further your business growth.

How Pinterest Works

As stated previously, Pinterest is a search engine. Unlike a regular Google search, it's a very visual platform. A pin consists of a graphic, photo, or video, a title, a description, and an outbound link.

You may be familiar with the platform as a user. Essentially, you search Pinterest for whatever you're looking for- for example, "Squarespace website templates". From there, you scroll through the pin graphics and select one you like. You read the title and description, and if you'd like more information, you click to the outbound URL where it likely takes you to a sales page to purchase the template.

Use Pinterest to Drive Traffic

How could Pinterest drive traffic for your business? All of those outbound links could go straight to your website! Imagine if you could get an extra 100 or 1000 clicks to your website each month. What could that do for your business?

Two things set Pinterest apart. First, Pinterest actually wants to get people off their platform. This is vastly different from Instagram or Facebook, which earns money by you staying ON the platform. You and Pinterest share the same goal- get people onto your website.

Second, Pinterest is a long game. You won't see the quick dopamine hits that you get from Instagram when you post and immediately receive likes and comments. Pinterest traffic takes time and consistency to build, but eventually even one pin can drive traffic to your website for months or even years.

8 Things to Post on Pinterest

When business owners think about pinning on Pinterest, blog posts is the #1 thing they think to pin. While I strongly believe in the power of blogging and know that's great content to pin on the platform, you aren't limited to only pinning blog posts.

As long as you have a public URL, you can create a pin! Here are 8 things to post on Pinterest besides blog posts.

1. Podcast episodes

Are you a podcaster? Pinterest is a powerful tool to drive more listeners straight to your show! If you host show notes on your website, you can directly link to them. If not, you can link to your episode on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

2. Freebie landing pages

Wishing more people would opt-in to your freebies? Pin them on Pinterest! Whether you have a freebie landing page on your own website or use a full-page form in your email marketing platform, you can directly link to your freebies.

3. Instagram posts

Did you know you have a unique URL to every post you share on Instagram? Each of those posts could be a pin! You can individually pin each post with a unique graphic, or you can connect your Instagram to your Pinterest so your posts will be shared automatically.

4. Services page

Pin every page on your website, including your Services page! If you wish your ideal clients would find you, make it easy for them by putting effort into a platform that wants to connect them to you. Create unique pin graphics tied to your Services page URL.

5. Digital or physical product page

Do you sell products, whether that's merch, online courses, or homemade items? Schedule pins for each of your products, services, and offers, or link to your Shop page altogether! This is a great way to spread awareness about what you have to offer.

6. Website homepage

As stated before, you can pin all the pages on your website- including your homepage! Create a variety of graphics in Canva to pin directly to your homepage and highlight the different aspects of what you do.

7. Affiliate links

Are you an affiliate for products, platforms, and services? Your pin links don't even have to go to your own website. Instead, your pin link could be your actual affiliate link! For example, if you're a TikTok influencer, you can pin directly to items on your Like to Know It.

8. YouTube videos

Don't worry YouTubers, there's a place for you on Pinterest too! Since each YouTube video has a URL, you can pin directly to YouTube videos as well.
