How to Connect Flodesk to Thrivecart Using Zapier to Automate Your Email Marketing

Are you tired of manually adding customers to your email list after every purchase? What if I told you there’s an easy way to automate this process, saving you time and ensuring every new customer gets the information they need without any extra effort? In this post, I’ll show you how to connect Flodesk to Thrivecart using Zapier, so when someone purchases a product or course, they’re automatically added to your email list and sent a series of follow-up emails.

I’ll be using my RANK Method course as an example. Whenever someone buys my course through Thrivecart, they’re automatically added to a segment on my email list called “RANK Method Students,” and I’ve set up a workflow in Flodesk to send them welcome emails and progress check-ins. You can easily apply the same steps to your own business.

What You’ll Need

To set up this automation, you’ll need three tools:

  1. Thrivecart – for handling product sales.

  2. Flodesk – for email marketing.

  3. Zapier – to connect the two.

Zapier will act as the ‘middleman’ that triggers an action in Flodesk whenever a purchase is made in Thrivecart. Once connected, you can automate your onboarding process, create targeted segments, and set up custom workflows for your new customers.

Step 1: Create a New Zap in Zapier

First, log in to your Zapier account and click Create Zap.

  1. Select Thrivecart as the trigger app: In the search bar, type in “Thrivecart” and select it.

  2. Set the trigger to "Product Purchase": This ensures that Zapier will take action every time someone makes a purchase.

  3. Connect your Thrivecart account: Follow the steps to link your Thrivecart account, then select the product for which you want to set up this automation (in my case, the RANK Method course).

  4. Test the trigger: Zapier will pull in recent sales data to make sure everything is connected correctly.

Step 2: Connect Flodesk as the Action App

Now that we’ve got the trigger set up, let’s create the action that Zapier will take whenever someone makes a purchase.

  1. Select Flodesk as the action app: Type “Flodesk” into the search bar and select it.

  2. Choose the action event "Create/Update Subscriber": This tells Zapier to add new customers to a specific segment in Flodesk.

  3. Connect your Flodesk account: Follow the prompts to link your Flodesk account to Zapier.

  4. Select your segment: Choose the segment where you want new customers to be added—in this case, I use a segment called “RANK Method Student.”

  5. Test the action: Run a test to make sure customer data is flowing from Thrivecart to Flodesk properly.

Step 3: Set Up Your Email Workflow in Flodesk

Once your customers are automatically added to the correct segment, it’s time to create an email workflow in Flodesk to welcome them and keep them engaged.

  1. Create a new workflow: Head over to Flodesk and click on Workflows. Select “Create New Workflow.”

  2. Set the trigger: In this case, the trigger is “Subscriber added to segment ‘RANK Method Student.’”

  3. Build your email sequence: You can start with a welcome email thanking them for joining your course, followed by a series of emails that check in on their progress, offer tips, or give access to additional resources. I like to include emails that check in every few weeks to help students stay on track.

Bonus Tip: You can add upsell emails, reminders, or offer bonus resources as part of your email sequence to keep your customers engaged and increase sales.

Step 4: Test the Entire Setup

Now that your Zap and workflow are both set up, it’s time to test everything.

  1. Do a test purchase: Go through the checkout process on Thrivecart to ensure the trigger is activated.

  2. Check your segment in Flodesk: Make sure the new customer is automatically added to the correct segment.

  3. Review the workflow: Confirm that the welcome email is sent and that the customer is now part of the follow-up sequence.
