Create a Customized Link in Bio Page on Squarespace in 4 Easy Steps

Move over LinkTree and Bitly! There’s a new way to create a customized Link in Bio page for your Instagram account using Squarespace.

'Link in Bio' pages have become the go-to for businesses on Instagram who want to direct their followers to a certain product, affiliate link, resource, or external website. Whether you’re an influencer, small business owner, or network marketer, utilizing a non-linked page on Squarespace to create an effective link in bio page can help your business gain the engagement it needs.

Using this guide, you'll learn how to stand out on social media platforms by creating a modern link in bio page that complements your brand and resonates with your audience. We'll cover the specific steps on how to create one on Squarespace, and share some tips on optimizing your link in bio page for maximum engagement.

With the right link in bio page, you can grow your brand on Instagram and reach more customers. So let's get started!

What is a Link in Bio and Do I Really Need One?

You’re probably wondering, “can’t I just throw the link to my website on my Instagram bio and people can browse my site to find what they want that way?” The short answer is yes, of course. The honest answer is, “do you really want to risk losing your customers by information overload?”

The truth is, unless someone viewing your profile knows you and your offerings well, they are unlikely to browse your website to find what they are looking for. If they are clicking onto your page, it is likely because you promoted a product or freebie that your customer is interested in and they want to learn more about.

Likely, if you are promoting your business on Instagram, you have several resources available for your audience so help keep it organized with a Link in Bio that has your top requested and performing links.

Since Instagram only allows you to post one link on your profile, a Link in Bio allows you to include links to your website, affiliate links, discount codes, and free resources all in one place.

If you’re a fashion influencer for example, you may have links to your Amazon Storefront, Like to Know It, and products you’re promoting that you earn a commission from.

If you’re a content creator, it may be smart for you to include links to your other social profiles on TikTok, YouTube, or Facebook.

If you’re a podcaster, you can add links that allow people to listen to your most-listened episodes and direct them to the streaming platform of their choice (i.e. Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, or Patreon).

It’s completely free and easy to customize your page with as many links as you want using SquareSpace. And the best part? You can track your traffic and engagement using the analytics function of Squarespace. Simply use a non-linked page and follow the steps below!

Step 1: Gather the Links You Want to Include in Your Link in bio page.

I recommend putting some thought into the links you choose to include in your link in bio page. You don’t want to have too many links that it becomes overwhelming for your potential customer and you want to list them in priority order.

In my experience, 5-7 links is a great number of links to include. Think about what your biggest money makers are or what your audience wants and values most from your content.

Do you have any opt-ins or free downloads that you are using to have people join your email list? Are you selling a course or digital product? Some creators list their Etsy storefront to direct people to where they sell their products.

Here is a list of links I have seen used by other business owners, creators, and influencers:

  • LiketoKnowit

  • Amazon Storefront

  • Social Media Platforms (Facebook, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok)

  • Podcast Platforms

  • Email Opt-Ins or Landing Pages (Like my page linked here)

  • Sales Pages for the most popular or newest offer

  • Discount codes and brand partnerships

  • Blog Page

  • Testimonials Page

  • Scheduling Link to book a consult call

  • Contact Page

You get the idea. The options are endless!

Step 2: Create a non-linked page and design to match your brand.

To create a non-linked page for your Squarespace website, click the “+” sign next to the Not Linked Section of your Pages. Select “Blank Page.”

Select the mobile view as you edit your page. Since people will be clicking your link from your Instagram profile, they will likely be using their cell phone to browse your links so you want to optimize the viewing for this type of device.

You can add a background and customize your buttons to suit your needs, linking to the sites your want people to view. These sites should promote your best products and opt-ins and again, limit the number of links to 5-7 so your page doesn’t become too overwhelming.

I recommend adding either your company logo or a photo of you to the top of the page for brand recognition. Once you are finished adding your links and buttons, hit save.

Step 3: Ensure your url slug is short and sweet.

Since your url will show up on your Instagram profile, you’ll want to keep is simple so it doesn’t become distracting or look like spam. URL slugs like “links”, “bio”, “intro”, “instagram” and “welcome” are good options.

To change the name of your URL click the “Settings” symbol next to the page you want to edit in the left hand menu.

In the menu that comes up, scroll down to where it says “URL slug” and update to the word of your choice. Make sure that the page is enabled and click save.

You can now use your URL to add to your Instagram profile.

Step 4: Add Your Link to Your Instagram Profile

To start using your link in bio on Instagram, go to your profile page then under your photo and bio section, click “Edit Profile.” Select “Links” then paste your new Link in Bio page url there. You can add a title though I don’t think this is necessary. Hit “Save” and you’re done!

You can start talking about your link in bio in your in-feed posts and stories on Instagram to encourage people to start using your links.

Your audience will become more familiar with your offers this way. If you are an influencer that frequently posts affiliate links, this is a great way to reduce the number of DMs you get asking for specific links.

Things to Avoid

As previously mentioned, other platforms like Bit.ly and LinkTree offer similar set-ups for creating a link-in-bio but you don’t own those platforms. Creating a page through your Squarespace account allows you to see traffic and conversions, including what people are most interested in. This allows you to make changes accordingly so you are promoting your most popular offers.

One thing to avoid when selecting your links is to only promote your high-paying offers. In order to build that know, like, and trust factor, you have to be providing value to your audience.

This is why it could be useful to post a link to your blog or free downloads. You want to establish yourself as a valuable resource in your niche so linking to your free resources is key.

Also important to avoid is cluttering the page with images and graphic elements. This page should be very streamlined with only the top links you want to promote.

Remember this is being viewed on a mobile device so adding pictures and elements between each link will distract the viewer, causing them to scroll and scroll to find what they need. Ultimately, if they can’t find what they are looking for quickly, they will exit and move on with their day.

In Conclusion

As you can see, creating a link in bio page for Instagram using Squarespace is not complicated. Showcase your top-performing and most valuable offers to your Instagram audience to establish yourself as an authority figure.

Use the data collected by Squarespace to refine your approach to marketing and online engagement. Don’t pay for another platform to host your links. Take the leap and build your link in bio page today!
